Design & build in Fulham

MVV is a high-end design and build contractor working throughout Fulham and the wider SW6 and SW10 streets. We design and build house extensions, loft conversions, full home refurbishments and bespoke joinery, and we handle period and listed-building work where it calls for a careful hand. Design, planning and construction sit with one accountable team, so the people who draw your home are the people who build it. Fulham is a neighbourhood of well-kept Victorian and Edwardian houses, mansion blocks and quiet garden streets, and the work here is rarely about starting from scratch. It is about opening up tight ground floors, drawing light into the back of the house and bringing tired interiors up to a standard that lasts. That is the kind of project we are built for, and we already have homes in the area to show for it.
Fulham housing and what it needs
Much of Fulham is made up of period terraces and semis, often narrow at the front with a long plan running back to the garden. These houses reward thoughtful extension and refurbishment, but they ask for it to be done properly. Original brickwork, lath and plaster, single-skin rear additions and dated services all have a way of complicating a job once the walls are open, and a good contractor plans for that rather than discovering it halfway through.
The most popular changes here are familiar ones. A rear or side return kitchen extension to create a single open living space, a loft conversion to add a bedroom and bathroom under the roof, and a full refurbishment that brings heating, wiring, insulation and finishes back up to a modern standard. We approach each so the new work feels like part of the house, in keeping with its proportions and the character of the street.
The MVV approach
We run Fulham projects as a single design and build service, from the first concept and layout through planning and engineering drawings to construction and the final finishes. One team carries the project the whole way, which keeps decisions clear, avoids the gaps that open up between separate designers and builders, and gives you one point of accountability throughout.
We are a high-end contractor and we treat the detail accordingly, from how a kitchen extension meets the garden to bespoke joinery and the quality of the second fix. MVV carries public liability cover of up to ten million pounds, and the office is in Chiswick, a short drive from Fulham, so the team stays close to the work.
A Fulham project: Ellerby Street
Ellerby Street in SW6 is one of our crown jewels and a good measure of what we do locally. It was a comprehensive interior design and build of a 450 square metre Victorian house, taken in a darker, more contemporary direction. The home includes a cinema room with a custom bar and backlit onyx stone, polished plaster and microcement finishes, and a one-of-a-kind blue moon marble dining table on century-old oak legs.
Nearby in SW10, our development of six residential flats at 306 Fulham Road shows the same standard at a different scale: bright, contemporary apartments with open-plan living, marble bathrooms and engineered oak floors, several opening onto private balconies above the Fulham rooftops.

Frequently asked questions
- Will my Fulham extension or loft need planning permission?
- It depends on the work and the property. Many rear and side return extensions and loft conversions can fall under permitted development, but flats, properties already extended, and homes in a conservation area or with an article 4 direction usually need a full application. Parts of Fulham sit within conservation areas, so we check the position for your specific address early and manage the application and the documentation your local authority requires.
- Do you work on period and listed buildings in Fulham?
- Yes. A large part of Fulham is Victorian and Edwardian, and we regularly work on period properties, including listed-building and conservation-area projects. Listed work needs listed building consent alongside any planning permission, and the approach has to respect the original fabric. We factor that into the design and the programme from the outset rather than treating it as an afterthought.
- How long does a project in Fulham take?
- Timescales depend on scope. As a general guide, a single-storey extension is often around two to three months on site once design and planning are settled, while a loft conversion or a full refurbishment of a whole house runs longer. Period houses can add time where the existing structure needs attention. We give you a realistic programme after a site visit, before any work begins.
- How do you manage disruption on a Fulham street?
- Fulham streets are close-built, with terraces, shared boundaries and limited parking, so we plan access, deliveries and waste with that in mind and keep neighbours considered throughout. As a single design and build team we coordinate the trades ourselves, which keeps the site orderly and the programme predictable, and we agree the practical arrangements with you before the build starts.
